Fabio Wardley’s team disappointed with officiating in WBO world heavyweight title loss to Daniel Dubois | Boxing News

Fabio Wardley’s team are disappointed with the officiating in Saturday’s fight against Daniel Dubois, Sky Sports understands.

Wardley floored Dubois twice in the early rounds but was eventually stopped in the 11th round of a brutal WBO world heavyweight title battle in Manchester.

The Ipswich boxer sustained facial damage throughout the fight and his team believe referee Howard Foster should have taken stronger action against Dubois for repeated illegal blows.

Extensive and visible damage to Wardley is thought to have been caused after he was caught by repeated illegal blows, including multiple head butts.

His team would also like an explanation why Foster broke up the action, just moments after Wardley hurt Dubois in the closing stages of the seventh round.

Sky Sports have contacted the British Boxing Board of Control for a response.

Wardley could decide to enforce an immediate rematch with Dubois after suffering the first defeat of his professional career.

Daniel Dubois had nothing but praise for Fabio Wardley following their sensational fight at the Co-op Live Arena in Manchester for the WBO heavyweight belt.

Promoter Frank Warren confirmed that a rematch clause had been inserted in the fight contract, meaning that Wardley can activate a return bout.

When asked about a potential rematch, Warren told Sky Sports: “It’s up to them. It’s up to the fighters.

“I would [like to promote a rematch] but I’d like to see them before they do that have a real good rest, recharge their batteries and everything.”
